I'm rockin' out on this final day before the book release, pulling all sorts of last-minute tricks out of my hat. For those of you in the Lansing area there should be an article in the State News today, as well as some blurbs in the City Pulse and Noise—though I haven't confirmed all this yet. For those of you who are interested, here's a link to download that interview WHMI did with me that aired last Sunday. There's another person interviewed before me; my interview starts about 18 minutes in. Ok—that's it for now. Hope to see a ton of you there tomorrow! E! P.S. – again, here's the link to the info on where the event is being held

…and the clock is rapidly ticking down to the release party… I want to encourage everyone to get there as early as you can, since I plan to start the event (at 6pm) with a brief presentation -- roughly 15-30 minutes long -- to basically talk about the book, explain its purpose and share a bit about my plans following this event.

Hola, los amigos! Steve Peter's Origin of Sparky comic has arrived! Actually, it came out last week, but life's been throwing me so many super-string curve balls that I fell behind until today. So, hurry on out to your friendly neighborhood indi comic shop and pick up your copy while there's still time!!! This is the first time my Origin of Sparky poster has been printed in a full size comic, so this is perhaps the widest exposure the piece has gotten thus far. Be sure to check it out—it's the centerpiece to the whole comic! Wishing you well, Mr. E ~ |

| Hey, folks—just a quickie, but a goodie… Steve Peter's Awakening Comics is putting out a full size Origin of Sparky book which will be available in comics stores in August, and will feature the re-mastered Origin of Sparky poster artwork I did way back when as a centerspread—sweet! Here's the catch—to ensure you can get your hands on one of these bad boys, you'll want to get in touch with your local comic shop to order a reserve copy sometime within the next week—preferably by this weekend, since that's when shops will begin making orders. Sorry for the short notice—life's been uber busy lately (updates coming soon). If you order through Previews the book is in the indi section on page 244 under Awakening Comics . Not sure where a comic shop is near you to order from? Visit http://csls.diamondcomics.com/ to use their comic shop locator, or call toll free at 1-888-COMIC BOOK (1-888-266-4226). Peace! |

The image is the cover to V For Vendetta , a story which was first published through the medium of comic books over two decades ago, written by one of my greatest influences--Mr. Allan Moore--and which has recently been adapted into a film that is having it's theatrical debut today. I have just returned from seeing an advanced viewing, which impressed the hell out of me. Of course, of all of Allan's works, this is one of the few I have not yet read…something I will amend for, promptly…so I have no way of knowing what sort of liberties the filmmakers took with the work, but I'll get back that in a moment. I'm not here to blather on about how amazing the film was, or to even share with you the story's plot—for that is but a vessel for the idea. The idea, though…now that is something. It carries beyond plot…beyond the imagery and the story. It follows you home…shadowing you as you move throughout your day…going about your business. It is the sort of idea that won't let you sleep…that'll drag you repeatedly out of bed demanding to be dealt with—to effect change through your thoughts, words and actions. I believe they call them muses. Whatever the meme, this one has grabbed me, and bid me write. I have a lot of work to catch up on before I can really offer to the world ideas of such potency …so for now I will compromise with delivering you this brief statement… …urging each and every one of you to see this film and/or read the book, if you haven't already. --- Of course, the story isn't complete unless you know about the tragic ironic twist concerning Allan Moore having long been repeatedly $@#&*%! out of ownership of his intellectual property by DC comics and how that has led him to completely and utterly disassociate himself from those works and their (usually) botched derivatives… V included [Allan supposedly called the screenplay for Vendetta , “rubbish.” Maybe I'd be saying the same thing if I'd read the book first, but right now I've got to say I felt the movie rocked—so I can only imagine that the complete, original work is something to behold. For the record, what I saw of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was a farce, I essentially avoided Hellblazer …*cough*…, I mean, uh, “ Constantine ” on principal alone, and I forgot to even consider checking out From Hell …which is the other major book of his I still haven't read. Some fan I am, huh? ]. If you're really interested in Allan's story, his work and all those primal layers, here's a recent article that more or less sums it up: edit 3/21/06: pay for them! Here's a link to an excerpt of the article on the Allan Moore fan site...
------- Incidentally, a couple weeks back my lovely and talented sister Alyssa took a break from her busy cross-country tour schedule to send a link to her family and friends—a site which she felt was too important not to pass along--featuring a documentary about the various questionable events surrounding the Sept. 11 th attacks: Like Alyssa, I usually avoid forwarding things in general…but after viewing the documentary and doing a bit of research myself I decided I'd at least pass along what I'd found and let people do with it what they will. I'm sure you've all been bombarded with 9 -11 conspiracy forwards in the past—we've all seen enough of that since the disaster--but If you do decide to watch it, I recommend visiting and exploring this site afterwards: http://911review.com/myth/index.html . It helped clear up some confusion I had about certain details on the matter, and shed some light on the strengths and weaknesses of this and other documentaries, stressing the need to focus on truths and to point out disinformation and the obvious negative influences it has for those seeking the truth. The site does favor the argument that there has been government cover-up and offers evidence to support those theories, but either way, I found them to be very convincing in their pursuit of truth and the need to separate that from what is fantasy. I'm not claiming to say I know that these guys have all their facts straight, but it seemed as straight forward, comprehensive and thorough as anything I've seen so far. If you're already familiar with V for Vendetta and consider yourself knowledgeable about the details concerning 9 -11, then I'm sure you can see--in part--what has motivated me to throw all of this at you straight out of the blue. If not, hopefully you will take some time to change that. Having seen them both raises a lot of interesting thoughts and questions in my mind…all the more reason I gotta' read the book. R egardless how you take any of this, I now feel content that I have dutifully followed my muse to completion…so I bid you all adieu, until next time. Oh…and may you all have a fun and safe St. Patrick's Day ! Peace, Mr. E--- |

Well, hello folks! It's been a lot longer stretch in between updates than I intended—this being the first update of 2006. It's also the beginning of a new format in conjunction with Vanishing Point Industries. As most of you are aware, some friends of mine and I have started an art studio in Lansing this last year, a project that's been one hell of a learning process…and a big part of what's been keeping me so busy. We're currently in the process of creating a line of inspirational/spiritual designs for t-shirts, stickers and other products that we'll be introducing this spring. We should be getting some promotional material out for that in a few weeks. Other current stuff… When I started taking classes at LCC I'd put Road Trip on the shelf to concentrate on my studies and to lead the LC4 group, but recently I've been working on finishing the script and the storyboards for it. Apart from responsibilities with the studio, completing Road Trip has become the main creative pursuit currently on my plate. In fact, later today the Xeric Foundation —a group that provides grants to creators who want to self publish their own comic books--will be reviewing my application for assistance with financing Road Trip—so wish me luck! They may not make their decisions on who's finally selected for several weeks yet, so please keep your positive thoughts on that if you have any to spare! I actually had a dream last night that I went to pick up my mail and found a fistful of enthusiastic acceptance notes from the various judges in the selection process, so I'll keep picturing that. If I don't get selected I'll simply take the time to polish it up further and resubmit it this summer—but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it happens now, especially because Steve Peters is producing a full-size Origin of Sparky book this summer [the same time I'm aiming to publishing Road Trip] and the center spread will again be the Origin of Sparky Poster I did! Since the Road Trip characters are straight off that poster—a fact I've planned to tie in to the Road Trip story—these two books coming out in synch with each other could really help their odds of success...so again, keep those fingers crossed! Something only a few of you have heard about—when classes started back up this semester I got a call from LCC asking me to instruct the Comic Book Illustration course—three hours before the first class, no less! My jaw about hit the friggin' floor! In the first place, the only reason they were even searching for someone to teach it was because the previous instructor had left [with ample notice] to come work alongside me at the VPI studio! Besides this irony, I was told that I was the only person that had even come to mind in their search for a replacement. That was flattering, I'll admit. Naturally, I had to turn them down, it being far too impractical a path at this juncture…but it sure added a wild little twist to things! ~ If you live in the Livingston county neighborhood and get the Marketeer, you may have noticed that January's issue had a comic advertisement on the inside cover—the one I illustrated for Matt's computer service side of VPI. If you missed it you can check it out here. By the way, please notice I've attached a letter to this update. It's something a friend of mine sent me a while back that I felt was worth passing along. Lastly, something neat that every comic fan should see: http://jerome.galica.free.fr/index.htm Peace, folks… ...oh...one last thing... anyone who wishes to visit the LC4 site, please note that the hosting has been temporarily interrupted for a few reasons, though I'll have that site backed up here until further notice: LC4 comic |

Well, well, well. It's been a while. A lot's happened on planet Earth since I last enjoyed a broadcast like this . I look at recent events like Hurricane Katrina and the ripple effects of it's aftermath and pray t' God the rest of us count our blessings all the more and keep a helping hand ready for our neighbors. That said, I'd like to switch gears and invite you all to review and explore the newly revamped Archetypal Images website, revised using the skills I been gettin' at LCC. I've learned a lot of new tricks, trimmed a ton of fat, improved most of the images, and have loads of great things happenin' that I'll be sharing with you in the weeks to come. So for now, I'll just let the website speak for itself--take a look around and get a whiff of what's cookin'--there will be more comin' soon--I promise !!!
Hi there world! I'm Matt, one of Eric's friends. Eric and I are working together on the VPI project, a company that aims to help people do what they love. One of my loves has always been gadgets! I've turned that love into a business fixing computer systems for people. I have over ten years of experience professionally diagnosing and repairing computer systems and peripherals! Need help? If you have lockups or popups or failed installations or any questions, please feel free to give me a ring! Many of the simpler problems I have found I can fix right over the phone at no charge (except for the word of mouth advertising of course!) If the problem is more than we can handle together over the phone I am flexible in making arrangements to get your system working again! Talk to you soon. Matt Preuss 734-320-5579 |
