Reminder & Revision of Upcoming Events
I need to give you all the heads up that my book signing date scheduled for 21st Century Comics and Games in Lansing has been rescheduled for November 5th, rather than October 22nd. Also, as a reminder, I'll be at Clem's Collectibles in Lansing this coming weekend for 24 Hour Comics Day, then back there again on the 29th for a book signing; right after that I'll be in Ann Arbor at Vault of Midnight for another book signing on November 1st. For times and locations please check the Events Calendar .

There's supposed to be an article in this Wednesday's edition of the Lansing State Journal's NOISE, focusing on the artists participating in this weekend's 24 Hour Comics Day event at Clem's, so be sure to pick that up if you live in the area.

Book Signing Recap & Upcoming Events
9/29/08
A.I. Announcements for Monday, September 29th, 2008

Greetings, everyone.

I've been busy scheduling more book signings in Lansing and Ann Arbor, so if you still haven't had a chance to connect with me and grab a book those will be good opportunities to do so. The list of the dates and locations are below in the 'Events Calendar.'

The book is now available at those locations and a few others; the full list of shops where you can get the book is also linked below, along with the recap of the book signing at Hero Quest a couple weeks back and a notice of a special event I'll be participating in on October 18th, called 24 Hour Comics Day.

The last item concerns my thoughts regarding the recent $700 billion dollar Bail-Out proposed for the banking industry by the Bush administration and includes some links to write your representatives about the issue while there's still time. Please take a look if you have a moment--I've included some interesting info you may not be aware of.

BAIL-OUT BULL-$#@!
Last night I had a decent talk with my old man about the recent BS bail-out proposal that little-boy-Bush and his Amazing Fiends are attempting to rush through congress—a subject that is on most American's minds at the moment, and sending ripples throughout the rest of the world as well, given our delicately woven global economy. -- read the rest of this post...

Book signing tomorrow, Wednesday Sept. 17 th, and other news

comic cover

Book signing tomorrow, Wednesday Sept. 17 th!
This is a quick reminder to all my Howell homies that I'll be doing a book signing for the Sponsorship Special at Hero Quest Comics & Games tomorrow, all day from 11am-8pm. If you couldn't make it out to Lansing for the release party this would be a great opportunity for us to connect. All the info is right here.

How to get the book
You can order your own copy of the book directly through the website for a $5 donation plus shipping. I'm working on getting the book into local comic shops and will post a list of locations once I have that all set.

request for quotes
It was recommended to me that I get some brief, 1-2 line quotes from people who have read the Sponsorship Special to get their impressions of it and me, as something I could use to help with further promoting the book and seeking additional sponsorship. When you have a spare moment, if you could compose a few thoughts and either email them to me or post them directly in this blog it would be a huge help.

Thanks!

More Press
WHMI 93.5 is playing brief announcements throughout today helping promote the book signing tomorrow. Give a listen if you can.

If you get the Livingston County Press you might have noticed the rather large picture of me working on a drawing on page 4A in Monday's edition, also helping promote the book signing.

I finally tracked down the online version of the article that appeared in the State News, MSU's student paper, on Friday Sept. 5 th , available here . Some of their facts are off, but press is press.

HURRICANE Ike, etc.
Tis the hurricane season, and as usual a lot of people have been beset with the trial of flooding and entropic winds…yet life slogs on. Once this mess is cleaned up the world will still be filled with famine, gorged with greed, drunk on debauchery and stained with blood…and while I don't mean to sound pessimistic I do mean to remind us all to be grateful for the blessings we do have and to be charitable where we can to help balance out such pain and madness. ---Read More

I'm rockin' out on this final day before the book release, pulling all sorts of last-minute tricks out of my hat.

For those of you in the Lansing area there should be an article in the State News today, as well as some blurbs in the City Pulse and Noise—though I haven't confirmed all this yet.

For those of you who are interested, here's a link to download that interview WHMI did with me that aired last Sunday. There's another person interviewed before me; my interview starts about 18 minutes in.

Ok—that's it for now. Hope to see a ton of you there tomorrow!

ARCHETYPAL IMAGES: PHOENIX RISING, PART 1
03/21/08
How does one start a message meant to introduce a completely fresh reboot to a long-dormant creative endeavor? How to capture the attention of an audience that may have given up hope of hearing any new, meaningful announcements from the quirky--and often misunderstood--Archetypal Images (A.I.)?

There is no easy answer.

The sole solution is to dive in head first, teeth a'-grinning, and hope the audience loves what you're selling…

…wrestling up as much charisma as you possibly can along the way.

So…what's the skinny, you ask?
The Archetypal Images Sponsorship Special!
Well, at long-last there is a brand new, twenty-page comic waiting to engage you:
The Archetypal Images Sponsorship Special.

There's much to be said about this book and the future of A.I…so to keep it simple I've also erected the new,
Archetypal Images Blog to chronicle this project and all future Archetypal Images project updates.

I could say more, but if you visit these two links you'll find all you need to know to learn about what's new at A.I…
…where we've been these last couple years…
…and what the future has in store.

Thank you for your patronage.

Indelibly,

Eric P. Wilmoth

The Origin of Sparky review and more
10/05/06

Howdy, folks',
Dropping you a line for a few quick headlines…

Dateline: America --

The Origin of Sparky, Reviewed!
Steve Peters forwarded me a review that was recently posted online of The Origin of Sparky comic that came out in August. The article is pretty cool. The author--initially attracted to the book because of Dave Sims' contribution [which I failed to mention before]--actually gives a brief, yet strong, review of my work and a link to my site. So if you want to read about the, “…center-spread bonanza of hallucinogenic imagery,” which I was noted for…and a smorgasbord of other artists' contributions to the Sparky mythos, please check out: The Origin of Sparky, Reviewed!

The Origin of Sparky, Reviewed!

BTW, if you haven't gotten your copy of The Origin of Sparky yet…
…what's the matter with you ?!?!
There are still copies available at my local comic shop,

Comic Utopia, 2375 Cedar St. in Holt (517) 694-6311

Contact me for issues directly if this doesn't work for you.
Posters of my contribution to the book
and other merchandise are also available at this location.

Gallery Exhibition
This month a piece of mine, Synchronicity Strikes , will be part of an exhibit entitled Crossing Boundaries: Art Beyond & Within Institutions . It'll look a lot more swanky there than it does on the ol' website, that's for sure.

This showing is being put on by my sister, Leah, as part of her final thesis for her Art History degree at Western Michigan University . The show will run from October 16 th - 20 th , with a closing reception [oxymoron?] on the 20 th .

Exhibition:
Crossing Boundaries: Art Beyond & Within Institutions

•  Dates: October 16th - 20th

•  Location: Rotunda gallery, East Hall
   WMU's historic East campus

•  Open: Mon-Fri, 10am - 5pm

Closing Reception Friday, OCT 20 th , 5 - 8pm

Be there, or be…

…elsewhere .

Also…coming soon, from Vanishing Point Industries…
VPI is at the very cusp of launching Newrealiteez, our line of distinctive, new-age apparel. In fact…were it not for a few lingering technical difficulties, this would have been the lead story for this-here update. Anyhow, stay tuned. I should be getting back to you about that real soon.

Have you seen HEROES ?! ?! ?!

sc-genesis-01.jpg
Many of you know that I don't watch much television…but there's an amazing new show on NBC that is moving in many of the same directions I am aiming to take my material in, called HEROES —maybe you've heard of it? It's layered with Spirituality…metaphysics…comics…evolution—this show's pretty much got it all, in my book. ; )

Well, the second episode aired Monday night (9pm EST), and NBC is replaying recently aired episodes on their website, http://www.nbc.com/

I think it's too late to catch the premier episode (shaz-bot!), meaning you've got less than a week to catch episode 2; watch it at: heroes

Watch a preview: Heroes, Episode 2

…And last, but not least…

Superman Family
An out-of-state friend-of-the-family is visiting at my parent's house this week and we've been making plans to hang over Myspace. I thought I'd share a humorous message from that correspondence—with his permission, of course. Read it here:
Crash landing on a farm...

That is all.

Wishing you Well,

The Origin of Sparky Comic is here!
9/01/06

Hola, los amigos! Steve Peter's Origin of Sparky comic has arrived! Actually, it came out last week, but life's been throwing me so many super-string curve balls that I fell behind until today. So, hurry on out to your friendly neighborhood indi comic shop and pick up your copy while there's still time!!!

This is the first time my Origin of Sparky poster has been printed in a full size comic, so this is perhaps the widest exposure the piece has gotten thus far. Be sure to check it out—it's the centerpiece to the whole comic!

Wishing you well,

Mr. E ~

MOre Origins of Sparky!
6/6/06

Hey, folks—just a quickie, but a goodie…

Steve Peter's Awakening Comics is putting out a full size Origin of Sparky book which will be available in comics stores in August, and will feature the re-mastered Origin of Sparky poster artwork I did way back when as a centerspread—sweet!

Here's the catch—to ensure you can get your hands on one of these bad boys, you'll want to get in touch with your local comic shop to order a reserve copy sometime within the next week—preferably by this weekend, since that's when shops will begin making orders. Sorry for the short notice—life's been uber busy lately (updates coming soon).

If you order through Previews the book is in the indi section on page 244 under Awakening Comics .

Not sure where a comic shop is near you to order from? Visit http://csls.diamondcomics.com/ to use their comic shop locator, or call toll free at 1-888-COMIC BOOK (1-888-266-4226).

Mad, Multiversal Mayhem Awareness Update
4/10/06

Greetings, sentient beings! I know it's no longer March, but the madness has a way of spilling over…

First, new art. to your left:
•  A piece I did for my quantum doppelganger/potential relative & pal, musical mastermind Eric Adams , AKA Satchel Jones. You can listen to samples of his excellent, modern-folky tunes at: http://www.myspace.com/satcheljones
In fact, I got my own myspace account a while back and am finally getting around to making better use of it. It's nothing too special just yet, but if you're inclined you can check it out at: http://www.myspace.com/ericwilmoth

•  Below that, another piece for another brother from another mother—this one some rune related art.

• Runes Crash Course
In the process of developing our line of designs at VPI, I came up with a quickie crash course for the Runes, which I've now revised and posted online to give at least a brief note on each rune until I can complete my full study of them.

If you're even remotely familiar with my outlook on life then you are probably aware that I subscribe to the view of a multiverse…or multidimensional reality--that is, above and beyond the typical 3-4 dimensions that we're taught through our adolescent school years.

While not part of the typical westerner's outlook, this is a view of reality generally embraced by many individuals, cultures and religious paradigms. Physics has debated the potential of multidimensional reality for the better half of the previous century, and, in fact, just over a week ago--last Thursday-- the American Museum of Natural History in New York held a debate between several physicists concerning this exact topic. If you wish to learn more about this there is an article at http://www.world-science.net/exclusives/060330_multiversefrm.htm

For some more fun concerning alternate realities (and comics), check out this week's impressive Strong Bad Email [flash animation]:
http://homestarrunner.com/sbemail150.html

The Gospel of Judas:
If you didn't catch one of the many televised reports about this intriguing topic this last week you can read about it at the ABC News website: http://abcnews.go.com/Primetime/story?id=1810169&page=1&CMP=OTC-RSSFeeds0312

I'd like to end this update on a note of CRISIS…
…not world crisis…not this worlds', anyway.

The issue of Wizard Magazine you see here actually came out a little over a month ago--in time for March Madness—highlighting the current progression of the decades-long story of the DC universe and its cyclic multiversal CRISES. While I view this whole episodic exchange perhaps more personally than most, I am even more moved by the depiction on this Wizard cover, asking the unavoidably appropriate question [especially if you happen to know the story, the boundaries it's crossing and it's overall ramifications beyond the scope of the books]…

…”SUPERMAN…OR MADMAN?”

Sound familiar?

Hopefully the answer is something like, “…oh., yeah…didn't Eric do something called The Super Mad Mix a while back? Something to do with music?”

If so, then you have a good memory—and you may even be silently wondering what became of that darn thing. Well, the music has been offline for a while due to certain technical complications…but I'm working to rectify that. Similar obstacles have prevented me from completing the comic that goes along with it--however, in the spirit of March Madness I resumed work on the book, which I hope to deliver very soon as well.

I intended to offer you at least the pencils for the newly illustrated pages in this update, but due to poor scans and time constraints that will have to wait till next time. For now, know that—like Road Trip—it is being worked on, and you should see the fruits of those labors soon.

Peace,

E---

...March Madness continues...
03/17/06

It's pictures like these that remind me why I exist. On the surface, this image itself conveys only so much…but below that surface… there lays the idea which finds me wrapped eagerly around my keyboard [at 3:17 am on 3/17/06 for those of you that care], capturing my thoughts to share with you this fine moment! It is the same idea that has driven me throughout my existence…throughout all I have created and all I will come to create. To encapsulate that idea and convey it in a simple thought is a blessedly rare and tricky thing to do…so I will not attempt to do that here. Instead, I hope to share merely a glimmer of that idea, perhaps, before you return to whatever else you have competing for your valuable attention.

The image is the cover to V For Vendetta , a story which was first published through the medium of comic books over two decades ago, written by one of my greatest influences--Mr. Allan Moore--and which has recently been adapted into a film that is having it's theatrical debut today. I have just returned from seeing an advanced viewing, which impressed the hell out of me. Of course, of all of Allan's works, this is one of the few I have not yet read…something I will amend for, promptly…so I have no way of knowing what sort of liberties the filmmakers took with the work, but I'll get back that in a moment.

I'm not here to blather on about how amazing the film was, or to even share with you the story's plot—for that is but a vessel for the idea. The idea, though…now that is something. It carries beyond plot…beyond the imagery and the story. It follows you home…shadowing you as you move throughout your day…going about your business. It is the sort of idea that won't let you sleep…that'll drag you repeatedly out of bed demanding to be dealt with—to effect change through your thoughts, words and actions. I believe they call them muses. Whatever the meme, this one has grabbed me, and bid me write.

I have a lot of work to catch up on before I can really offer to the world ideas of such potency …so for now I will compromise with delivering you this brief statement…

…urging each and every one of you to see this film and/or read the book, if you haven't already.

---

Of course, the story isn't complete unless you know about the tragic ironic twist concerning Allan Moore having long been repeatedly $@#&*%! out of ownership of his intellectual property by DC comics and how that has led him to completely and utterly disassociate himself from those works and their (usually) botched derivatives… V included [Allan supposedly called the screenplay for Vendetta , “rubbish.” Maybe I'd be saying the same thing if I'd read the book first, but right now I've got to say I felt the movie rocked—so I can only imagine that the complete, original work is something to behold. For the record, what I saw of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was a farce, I essentially avoided Hellblazer …*cough*…, I mean, uh, “ Constantine ” on principal alone, and I forgot to even consider checking out From Hell …which is the other major book of his I still haven't read. Some fan I am, huh? ]. If you're really interested in Allan's story, his work and all those primal layers, here's a recent article that more or less sums it up:
Vendetta against "v For Vendetta"
Oops! the New York Times apparently has a time limit for new articles before they want you signup and eventually

edit 3/21/06: pay for them! Here's a link to an excerpt of the article on the Allan Moore fan site...
edit 2 3/21/06: ok, I went and logged in and got a copy of the full article. Hopefully this lasts. I backed it up as a microsoft word doc just in case.

-------

Incidentally, a couple weeks back my lovely and talented sister Alyssa took a break from her busy cross-country tour schedule to send a link to her family and friends—a site which she felt was too important not to pass along--featuring a documentary about the various questionable events surrounding the Sept. 11 th attacks:
Loose Change 2nd edition

Like Alyssa, I usually avoid forwarding things in general…but after viewing the documentary and doing a bit of research myself I decided I'd at least pass along what I'd found and let people do with it what they will. I'm sure you've all been bombarded with 9 -11 conspiracy forwards in the past—we've all seen enough of that since the disaster--but If you do decide to watch it, I recommend visiting and exploring this site afterwards: http://911review.com/myth/index.html . It helped clear up some confusion I had about certain details on the matter, and shed some light on the strengths and weaknesses of this and other documentaries, stressing the need to focus on truths and to point out disinformation and the obvious negative influences it has for those seeking the truth.

The site does favor the argument that there has been government cover-up and offers evidence to support those theories, but either way, I found them to be very convincing in their pursuit of truth and the need to separate that from what is fantasy. I'm not claiming to say I know that these guys have all their facts straight, but it seemed as straight forward, comprehensive and thorough as anything I've seen so far.

If you're already familiar with V for Vendetta and consider yourself knowledgeable about the details concerning 9 -11, then I'm sure you can see--in part--what has motivated me to throw all of this at you straight out of the blue. If not, hopefully you will take some time to change that. Having seen them both raises a lot of interesting thoughts and questions in my mind…all the more reason I gotta' read the book.

R egardless how you take any of this, I now feel content that I have dutifully followed my muse to completion…so I bid you all adieu, until next time.

Oh…and may you all have a fun and safe St. Patrick's Day !

Peace,

Mr. E---

…March Madness in motion……
03/06/06

Well, hello folks! It's been a lot longer stretch in between updates than I intended—this being the first update of 2006. It's also the beginning of a new format in conjunction with Vanishing Point Industries.

As most of you are aware, some friends of mine and I have started an art studio in Lansing this last year, a project that's been one hell of a learning process…and a big part of what's been keeping me so busy. We're currently in the process of creating a line of inspirational/spiritual designs for t-shirts, stickers and other products that we'll be introducing this spring. We should be getting some promotional material out for that in a few weeks.

Other current stuff…

When I started taking classes at LCC I'd put Road Trip on the shelf to concentrate on my studies and to lead the LC4 group, but recently I've been working on finishing the script and the storyboards for it. Apart from responsibilities with the studio, completing Road Trip has become the main creative pursuit currently on my plate. In fact, later today the Xeric Foundation —a group that provides grants to creators who want to self publish their own comic books--will be reviewing my application for assistance with financing Road Trip—so wish me luck! They may not make their decisions on who's finally selected for several weeks yet, so please keep your positive thoughts on that if you have any to spare!

I actually had a dream last night that I went to pick up my mail and found a fistful of enthusiastic acceptance notes from the various judges in the selection process, so I'll keep picturing that. If I don't get selected I'll simply take the time to polish it up further and resubmit it this summer—but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it happens now, especially because Steve Peters is producing a full-size Origin of Sparky book this summer [the same time I'm aiming to publishing Road Trip] and the center spread will again be the Origin of Sparky Poster I did! Since the Road Trip characters are straight off that poster—a fact I've planned to tie in to the Road Trip story—these two books coming out in synch with each other could really help their odds of success...so again, keep those fingers crossed!

Something only a few of you have heard about—when classes started back up this semester I got a call from LCC asking me to instruct the Comic Book Illustration course—three hours before the first class, no less! My jaw about hit the friggin' floor! In the first place, the only reason they were even searching for someone to teach it was because the previous instructor had left [with ample notice] to come work alongside me at the VPI studio! Besides this irony, I was told that I was the only person that had even come to mind in their search for a replacement. That was flattering, I'll admit. Naturally, I had to turn them down, it being far too impractical a path at this juncture…but it sure added a wild little twist to things! ~

If you live in the Livingston county neighborhood and get the Marketeer, you may have noticed that January's issue had a comic advertisement on the inside cover—the one I illustrated for Matt's computer service side of VPI. If you missed it you can check it out here.

By the way, please notice I've attached a letter to this update. It's something a friend of mine sent me a while back that I felt was worth passing along.

Lastly, something neat that every comic fan should see: http://jerome.galica.free.fr/index.htm

Peace, folks…

...oh...one last thing...

anyone who wishes to visit the LC4 site, please note that the hosting has been temporarily interrupted for a few reasons, though I'll have that site backed up here until further notice: LC4 comic

Yo--I'm Back!
9/23/05

Well, well, well. It's been a while. A lot's happened on planet Earth since I last enjoyed  a broadcast like this . I look at recent events like Hurricane Katrina and the ripple effects of it's aftermath and pray t' God the rest of us count our blessings all the more and keep a helping hand ready for our neighbors.

That said, I'd like to switch gears and invite you all to review and explore the newly revamped Archetypal Images  website, revised using the skills I been gettin' at LCC. I've learned a lot of new tricks, trimmed a ton of fat, improved most of the images, and have loads of great things happenin' that I'll be sharing with you in the weeks to come.

So for now, I'll just let the website speak for itself--take a look around and get a whiff of what's cookin'--there will be more comin' soon--I promise !!!

P.S. --here's a quick message from the captain of Vanishing Point Industries , the new company I co-pilot and am promoting through my site:
Don't Miss the VPI Comic!

Hi there world!

I'm Matt, one of Eric's friends. Eric and I are working together on the VPI project, a company that aims to help people do what they love. One of my loves has always been gadgets! I've turned that love into a business fixing computer systems for people. I have over ten years of experience professionally diagnosing and repairing computer systems and peripherals!

Need help?

If you have lockups or popups or failed installations or any questions, please feel free to give me a ring! Many of the simpler problems I have found I can fix right over the phone at no charge (except for the word of mouth advertising of course!) If the problem is more than we can handle together over the phone I am flexible in making arrangements to get your system working again!

Talk to you soon.

updating site...
8/15/05
If you happen to be swingin' by for a visit you'll notice i'm updating the site. there are a few unresolved elements yet, so don't be surprised if you see something that offers more than it delivers. As soon as those have been taken care of i will send out A solid, informative update.
