| Sparky As An Archetype: Steve Peters' picks my brain about what it was like working with his character, Sparky. |
| ********** Steve: Can you tell us a little about your experience of working with Sparky? Eric: The first time I worked with Sparky was doing a piece on my vision of his origin, in your Awakening Comics 2001 mini comic [soon to be made into a poster!]. From the beginning I could see that this character was going to leave his mark on me, as his existence appeared to me to be seriously profound. For me, Sparky summed up the conflicting philosophies of good vs. evil into a transcendent image of manifestation through the duality of existence [that’s a mouthful!]. Simultaneously, he portrayed something most of us have longed to do at one point or another: the ability to communicate an idea with zero misinterpretation. I instantly saw him as a harbinger of messages in a new age--a deliverer of concepts and possibilities that would serve to connect and inspire countless minds. Steve: Interesting. |
| Eric: His sheer simplicity
and rascally innocence make him immediately accessible and identifiable
to just about any reader. Combined with the reality of your open-door
policy on working with Sparky, the diversity of his existence is limited
only by one’s imagination. I think it highly possible that Sparky may
be a household archetype before too long.

| Steve: Gawrsh, you're very kind! (Laughing) We're
beginning to sound like an infomercial here, aren't we? As long as we're
patting each other's backs, Eric, why don't you tell these good people
out there what you're up to lately? Eric: As it turns
out, I’ve just completed a
four-page story for Untitled Tales #1 (a B&W anthology book due out
this summer) and Sparky unexpectedly wound up appearing in it, delivering
the main character from a most terrible fate. Additionally, I’m working
on a more voluminous tale in which, again, Sparky seems to be playing
a prominent figure. I’m beginning to think Sparky will be showing
up in my work for a long time to come and I highly recommend working
with the scamp. Steve: Cool! I do hope more people will get involved in developing the Sparky mythology. Anything else you'd like to say to all these nice Awakeningites? Eric: Keep readin’ ‘n’ writin’, folks! Steve: Amen to that, brother! Tell me what you
thought of the PARADOX CD folks!!!! |
